Sending Cards To Hurting People

When I retired from my job, I knew I wanted to serve the Lord with my gifts and volunteer at my church.  I went to a meeting at my church. A leadership position needed to be filled. I was new to the group so I kept my hand and my head down. I didn’t want to volunteer to be a leader, that was for someone else.

The next position was for the “Sunshine Committee.” Only one person was needed to send out the get-well cards to church members. I knew that it was the perfect position for me. My hand quickly went up as I said, “I’d like to do that.” I really wanted to. I am a person who likes to work quietly behind the scenes. I knew that God had found me a position where I had skills and an interest.

For the past three years I’ve received our church’s prayer list. I pray over every person that is on the prayer list and then send out care cards with love from God and our congregation. I carefully choose cards that fit men, women, and children....

Serving Others With Food

Food is the way God led me to serve. About 18 years ago, my husband first volunteered as a driver for a local food pantry in our home state, Alaska. Unlike most soup kitchens or food pantries, this food pantry also delivered the food right to the doors of those in need, since they usually didn't have access to reliable transportation. This organization had two drivers who would deliver, and one person to pack the food.

While my husband enjoyed delivering the food, I was not as comfortable driving in the Alaskan winters. So I began as a volunteer food packer, and have done so ever since. My daughter was home schooled during elementary school, and she usually came along to help pack the food. Although she didn't always love it, she has since told me that this is what taught her empathy and to have the heart of a servant...

The Christian Heart ministry tells true stories of everyday people showing their love for Jesus; how they live out their Christian faith.

We want these stories to be seen by as many people as possible. We truly feel these stories can provide inspiration and encouragement to just about anyone that sees them. But Facebook, Instagram and Twitter do not necessarily love Christian sites. A lot of times messages from any Christian site are not shown to very many of their followers. In fact, our stories are only displayed to about 10% of our followers.
